About China

China is one of the biggest countries in the world and has over 4000 years of history. It is recognized as one of the four ancient civilizations alongside Egypt, Babylon, and India (China Internet Information Center, 2001). The Tang Dynasty (618–907 C.E.) is the greatest dynasty of Chinese civilization, it is wealth, peace, stability, and worldwide influence. The capital city during the Tang Dynasty was Chang’an, and was the biggest city in the world at that time. It attracted diplomats from around the world to make China truly “The Middle Kingdom” (Shen Yun Performing Arts, n.d). A lot of the most remarkable inventions and advancements were created from the Tang Dynasty, such as gunpowder, printing, advancements in medicine, science, technology, architecture, and literature ( Mark, 2016). Fast forward 4000 years to the 21st Century and China is now the most populated country in the world with approximately 1.3 Billion people and growing. It is the second largest economy and is rich in culture and influence. China has launched satellites, built skyscrapers in rural communities, and is known around the world for its’ manufacturing of goods at low prices. Politically, China is not a multi-party democracy and is under communist rule ( Taylor, 2011). This makes China the only one out of the ten main global economic countries to utilize a different form of government. China is very different from Western, Islamic and Indian civilizations, and has been politically united for much of its history (Pillalamarri, 2015). Politics, clothing and the economy between the Tang Dynasty and China today will be covered in this research.

The importance of politics that matter for a country, controlling social development successful. The Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE) was a golden age of reform and advanced culture, which lay the foundation for policies that still exists in China nowadays (Mark, 2016). The Taizong (626–649), known as the “era of good government of Zhenguan,” was important for innovations in administration, because of administration and relationship between monarch and advisers of Confucian. Seeking and accepting the advice of intelligent and competent ministers, the advice was basically ethical instead of technical (Britannica n.d.). Emperor Taizong cherished and governed people accordingly and used the imperial examination system selected officials for the government which allowed people who were intellectuals and born in poverty families to have the opportunity to work for the government. The examination system helped to develop the centralization of

imperial authority and to promote the unification of thought (travelchinaguide, 2016). Emperor Taizong approach beneficial, China had the most peaceful and stable period. Both aristocracy and common folk have lived harmoniously and happier, with lower crime rates and limited official corruption (Britannica, n.d). Compare to modern China’s political history, China has governed a political system of communism since September 1949 after the leader Mao Zedong won victory after a long civil war against National Chinese forces and started the firm-handed reign of a communist party. Following Mao Zedong is dead, a period of economic growth dramatically in China by new leader Deng Xiao ping in 1978 and started reforming an economic system that transforming the country globally today (worldpopulationreview, n.d.). Deng Xiao Ping proposed \”market socialism\” to explain the evolution of China. China is characterized by a central unitary state completely administered by the Chinese communist party. The party has all in the country (Banco Santander, 2019).

Economic development is a critical component for a country, helping people to have a better quality of life. In the early Tang, agricultural production decreased that led to a harmful effect on the government. However, through strong leadership and many programs were created to establish improvements with trade, land distribution, and taxation (NATHAN BOGOMOLNY, n.d.). The Tang Dynasty prospered because of reopening trade with nearby countries by sea and overland along the silk road in 693 through conquering hostile of neighboring countries to ensure the stability and security of the route. Goods like jade, silk, porcelain, tea, and spices were being sold to oversea. This made the population’s wealth which was able to pay taxes. Because of taxes that helped the government to keep the expenses of war under control. Even the Tang Dynasty waged wars and expanded that close to the Persian, the prosperity of the Chinese people was not affected (TheTangDynasty.org, 2014). During this period trade was not only transport goods and luxuries; it was also a link of ideas and innovation from Persia, India, and the countries of the Middle East and Central Asia. These innovations changed fashion, brought new forms of ceramic to Chinese artists and allowed them to learn stronger ways to craft silver (study.com, n.d.). In the 21century, China is becoming a global country quick, as its economic and diplomatic attendance everywhere. Leaders in Beijing appear to have a vision for China’s role in international affairs, as exemplified by \’a new model of major-power relations\’, \’major country foreign policy with Chinese characteristics\’ and \’One Belt, One Road\’ ( Xie,2017). One Belt One Road Initiative (OBOR) is a strategy for promoting cooperation and connectedness between Europe and Asia, such as, Kenya, Indonesia, Israel, and many others countries in a total of 44 countries. Most of those are developing countries, One Belt One Road helps them to develop their transportation, energy production, and trade ( Lu, 2018).
Clothing is one of the important components of Chinese culture, through clothes style changes that can see the progress of society. In the Tang Dynasty, clothing was unique and natural. The materials were fashionable because frequent contacts with the western countries had an influence on clothing. For different social class had specified clothes and jewels for them. Clothing was made of silk, wool, and linen that was common, but for the people with have not much money wear clothes with animal furs (Totallyhistory, 2012). Skirts, dresses, and capes were the main elements in women\’s fashion during the Tang Dynasty. Women always wore long sleeves shirts with narrowing cuffs. When gained more influenced from western, the sleeves became widened and reach as Chinese chi, or nearly 130 cm. The collars have a different type of shapes and sizes, such as straight crossed and round to. The apes were made with lightweight yam or silk, often wrapped around neck and shoulders but could show an amount of sin, that is still used Women always wore skirts, generally very high at the waist, but sometimes even up to the armpits for visually to make longer legs ( Xiao, 2015). Today, designers use a combination of traditional and modern style to create a new fashion, such as guardian deities, lions, and masks of Chinese opera characters. In modern society, men wear dignified and refined traditional Chinese long gown, and women often wear the ch’i-p’ao at a social place. The are three major types of traditional Chinese clothing are still wear until now, the pien-fu, the ch’ang-p’ao, and the shen-i. , as a result, the shen-i was the most common to be wear in three types. clothings were wide and voluminous sleeves and a very loose fit (Xiao,2013).In modern Chinese, clothing examines the transformations of individuals and communities undergoing a change in society (kittyjoanna, 2012).
In conclusion, China is the longest ancient civilizations in the world, but China can not easily break away from its traditional culture. Whatever how western culture influences recent, Chinese traditional culture always able to fuse with western culture. The Tang Dynasty is an example of a connection between China\’s open and its international influence. In 21st China has become a most powerful country. China’s transformation has been extraordinary with worldwide impact. People have a better life in a shorter time even it remains the only one global economies not to be a multi-party democracy.
